Cheshire West and Chester Council
In August 2011 we were delighted to have been awarded a 4 year contract by Cheshire West and Chester (CWaC) following a competitive tendering process. The contract, which commenced on the 9th October 2011, is to deliver innovative and new sport development services on behalf of the Local Authority.
CWaC's sports development's staff and budgets have now been transferred across, and integrated into the Sport Cheshire team, to help us create a pioneering local community sport system. We are currently working with CWaC to agree priorities for the coming year -which target groups will be the focus, ongoing delivery arrangements for CWaC legacy projects, our role in helping with the playing pitch strategy for the borough, support to Brio Leisure... in fact, lots really.
We will continue to do some of what you would expect from a sport development team - for example, direct delivery of specific projects or helping to prepare for the Torch Relay celebration (the torch arrives in Chester on the 29th May, so get ready for one big party!). However, we plan to operate much more strategically, using our research and intelligence to identify latent demand, and then working with a wide range of delivery partners to help deliver targetted interventions. All of this is set against a backdrop of opening up the existing supply side of provision - working harder the facilities we have already got! In addition, we want to speak as one voice for sport, making it easier for us (that's Sport Cheshire and our local partners) be commissioned to provide sporting solutions to meet local need.
More details on the contact will appear here shortly, including our year 1 priorities - so can follow or progress as well as help us shape our response. Ultimately we intend to be creative in how we operate to create more opportunities for residents of Cheshire West and Chester to get active.
