Sport England
The services that will be provided to national governing bodies and Sport England are outlined in what is termed the 'Core Specification'. The Core Specification was updated for 2011-12 to reflect changes in the local and sporting landscapes yet retains a methodology to ensure each of the 49 CSPs works in unison to deliver a consistent, high quality service to support National Governing Bodies (NGBs) across England. Quality and impact of performance is regularly reviewed by Sport England with annual contributions from local landscape partners.

Sport Cheshire delivers elements of the £135 million Places People Play mass participation legacy from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This will ensure that Cheshire and Warrington is linked into London 2012, answering the promise made at Singapore to inspire a new generation to play sport. Our involvement includes contracts to deliver two programmes:
- Sportivate: provide opportunities for Young People to participate in high quality coached sport programmes, engaging with 900+ young people (aged 14-25) to be "retained" in 6-8 weeks of sporting activity of their choice aiming to increase sustained participation. This work is led by Louse Nicks (Louise.Nicks@sportcheshire.org).
- Sport Makers: recruiting, training and deploying new sports volunteers aged 16 years and over to organise and lead community sporting activities to increase participation by adults, with a minimum of 688 volunteers to be "deployed" and "retained" each year. Contact Adam Norris (Adam.Norris@sportcheshire.org) if you want to find out more.
Linked to the mass participation legacy is the new Schools Games competition. The initiative was launched, on Monday 28 June 2010, and is a key part of the Government's plans for a lasting sporting legacy for young people from hosting the London 2012 Games. The competition aims to further revive the culture of competitive sport in schools. The Cheshire & Warrington School Games will be hosted on the 6th July 2012 and will showcase the very best of school sport, offering competition in at least 10 sports with an estimated 1000+ competitors taking part. This level 3 sporting festival will lead on from the level 1 (intra school) and level 2 (inter school event) and will be a great sporting event that draws on the whole Cheshire & Warrington footprint. To find out more, just drop Steve Butterfield a line (Steve.Butterfield@sportcheshire.org).
We also undertake activity to inspire people with a disability to take part in Sport England's mass participation legacy programme Place, People, Play. Funded work in Disability includes Playground to Podium, a dedicated initiative designed to identify and nurture disabled young people and disabled adults with the potential to be elite athletes. This work area is led by Emma Landstrom (Emma.Landstron@sportcheshire.org).
We have recently successfully tendered to host a Beginners Running Programme (a new contract awarded by Sport England to selected CSPs) to get more people running across Cheshire & Warrington. This will involve the identification, training and deployment of over 100 new run leaders, the establishment of new running groups across Cheshire and Warrington and the development of the structures for more sustainable run groups. Activity will be undertaken also to support existing running groups in the area. This work area is led by Sarah Tilling Sarah.Tilling@sportcheshire.org).
Given the recent launch of the new Sport England new five-year youth and community sport strategy, designed to deliver on Lord Coe's 2012 Games bid promise to inspire a generation to get involved in sport, we await further information on new resources to create effective links locally between schools and sport in the community. We will not only continue to support NGBs but will foster local links and help transition young people into clubs.
