Sport Cheshire & the University of Chester deliver research in Warrington

Added on: 10th June 2011
Sport Cheshire and the University of Chester teamed-up to undertake a research project in Fearnhead, Warrington during January and February 2011.
Undergraduate students from the University (led by MSc students Sarah Wilson-Gavin, Nicola Hulme and Jon Jones) undertook 5 sessions of on-the-street consultation with young people aged 11-25 in Fearnhead, with a session also in Lysander High School. The purpose of the research was to find out what sporting activities would engage young people outside of school time and where they would prefer to take part in the activity.
The results of the research project were fed back to local community groups in May at Fearnhead Community Centre by Sarah, Nicola and Jon. The full report and presentation can be downloaded below.
There is now an opportunity for local community groups in Fearnhead to utilise these results in inform the sporting offer they make for young people in the area. One opportunity for local groups to apply for funding to deliver activities is through the Lottery Funded programme - Sportivate. To find out more Sportivate click here.
We would like to extend our thanks to all groups who helped us undertake the research. The research project was overseen by Ian Duckmanton (Sport Cheshire) and Dr Andy Smith (University of Chester).
